Bilibili Subs - Search Results Subtitle Filter by Henrique Gorni

Finding out whether a Bilibili video has subtitles in your language normally means opening each video and checking manually whether subtitles are available. This extension does that check automatically and labels the search results, leaving visible only the videos that match your filter.

How to use it

[IMPORTANT] log in to Bilibili before using the extension. The information used to identify subtitles is only available once you're logged in.

Install the extension and open a Bilibili search. A panel appears in the bottom right corner of the screen, with two tabs:

• Subtitles: pick the languages you want.
• Audio: an optional filter by audio language. Leave everything unchecked to skip it.

Below that are the three display modes:

• Show all simply adds a label to each video showing whether it has the chosen subtitles.
• Dim greys out the thumbnails of videos without the selected subtitles to make clear they don't match the filter.
• Hide removes every thumbnail from the results except those whose videos have subtitles in the chosen languages.

Each video gets a label in its top left corner:

• CC means a subtitle submitted by a person, usually better quality since it was manually reviewed.
• AI means a subtitle auto-generated by Bilibili (most available subtitles).
• AUD is the audio language inferred by the extension, shown when the audio filter is on (this filter is highly imprecise, since the audio language is inferred from the video title).

Hovering over the label shows the full list of subtitle tracks for that video.

About the audio filter

Bilibili doesn't report which language is spoken in a video, so this filter works by inference and can be wrong. By default it relies on surface-level clues, such as the writing system used in the title. The "Read the transcript to identify speech" option is far more accurate, since it analyses the text of the auto-generated subtitle, but it makes one extra request per video and slows the check down. A badge with a question mark indicates a low-confidence guess.

If no video shows any subtitles

Log in at bilibili.com and reload the page. The subtitle list is only returned to authenticated sessions. Without logging in, every video looks like it has no subtitles at all. The extension warns you when it detects this.

Other notes

Results are cached for a week, so repeating a search whose results haven't changed is instant. The "Clear cached checks" button discards that cache and runs the filtering again. If you just installed the extension and the panel doesn't appear, reload the page, since tabs opened before the installation aren't affected.

Privacy

No data is collected, stored outside your browser, or sent to third parties. The extension only talks to Bilibili itself, exactly as the site already does.
