About this extension
Cookie Backup and Restore — easily backup all your browser cookies into an encrypted file and restore them later. Useful when switching computers, reinstalling the OS, or moving between Chrome and Firefox.
Features:
- Encrypted backup (.ckz) protected by your password (SJCL encryption, AES-256)
- Plain backup/restore (.json) with explicit security warnings
- One-click restore with progress bar and per-cookie warnings (expired or failed cookies)
- Cross-browser: works in Chrome and Firefox (Manifest V3), Chrome backups can be imported into Firefox
- 25 interface languages, light/dark theme
- No account, no servers, no tracking — everything runs locally in your browser
How to use:
1. Click "Backup all cookies", set a password (min. 3 chars), save the .ckz file.
2. To restore, select the .ckz file and enter the same password.
3. If the file picker doesn't work, use "Unable to upload a backup file?" and paste the file contents manually.
Privacy & permissions:
- cookies + <all_urls>: required to read all cookies for backup and to write them back on restore (cookies can only be restored per-domain URL).
- downloads: saves the backup file to your disk.
- storage: remembers only your theme and language choice.
- The add-on never sends data anywhere (data_collection_permissions: none). Your password never leaves your device — if you forget it, the backup cannot be decrypted.
