FoldTrail is an independent Folding@home companion. It keeps a contribution journal in your Firefox profile. There is no developer-operated backend, analytics, advertising, or cloud account.


After you enable the connection and add a profile, FoldTrail sends your chosen public donor name or team number directly to https://api.foldingathome.org. Later requests use numeric donor or team IDs to retrieve public statistics. The service receives ordinary network information, including your IP address. Requests omit cookies, authentication credentials, and referrers. FoldTrail never asks for passwords or passkeys.

Firefox's installation disclosure includes identifying information and authentication information because donor usernames and numeric identifiers are transmitted to that API. This is not a login to your Folding@home account. No API requests occur before you explicitly enable the connection.


Tracked names and IDs, timestamped points/work-unit/rank observations, settings, milestone targets, and journal events are saved using Firefox's local extension storage. They are not uploaded to the developer, synchronized through Firefox Sync, or shared with other users. FoldTrail does not read browsing history or inject scripts into websites.

The journal is limited to five profiles, up to 90 days and 2,200 observations per profile, and 100 journal events. Older observations are removed on successful collection. If collection stops, existing data remains until deletion or uninstall. Restoring a long-dormant backup retains its latest observation as a baseline.


Collection runs every one, three, or six hours while Firefox is running. Settings can pause future requests; a collection already in progress may finish before the pause takes effect. Manual refresh has a five-minute cooldown and honors retry delays.

Optional Firefox notifications show milestones and quiet-period notes. They may be visible on the operating system's notification screen. Notifications can be disabled in Settings or revoked in Firefox's extension permissions.


JSON backups and CSV exports contain names and statistics you track. Store and share these downloaded files deliberately. Restoring a backup replaces the journal and pauses API requests and system notifications.

Remove individual profiles or delete all locally stored FoldTrail data through Settings. Uninstalling normally removes Firefox's extension storage. Downloaded files remain on your device until you delete them separately.


Clicking an official-statistics link opens the Folding@home site, whose own privacy practices apply. FoldTrail's interface loads no remote fonts, images, scripts, or analytics.
