Split for Hacker News has no analytics, telemetry, account, advertising, sale of data, or developer-operated backend.

When the user opens the popup, chooses Open in Split, uses Check this tab, enables the optional comment-count badge, or enables following while the Firefox Sidebar is already open, the extension handles the relevant public page or selected-link URL. It may also read the URL from the page's canonical link element. It never reads article text or other page content.

Only eligible public HTTP(S) URL candidates are sent over HTTPS to Algolia's public Hacker News Search API to find exact matching discussions. URLs with credentials, recognizable secrets, local/private addresses, or special-use hostnames are rejected. Algolia may receive normal connection metadata under its own privacy policy. Found lookups may be cached for one hour and not-found lookups for ten minutes in browser session storage; the browser discards these entries when the session ends.

The sidebar embeds the real Hacker News page. While a live panel exists, one narrowly scoped dynamic rule removes framing headers only from Hacker News sub-frame responses. The extension does not read the framed page, its comments, DOM, cookies, credentials, or scroll position. Hacker News receives ordinary browser requests under its own policy.

The Firefox build omits the Chromium-only story-click option. The manifest declares required data categories browsingActivity and websiteContent because eligible public URLs can be sent to Algolia. No optional data or technical/interaction telemetry is declared.
