About this extension
Sugar Sense for Firefox is a free browser extension that shows your current CGM glucose reading on the Firefox toolbar, so you can keep an eye on your blood sugar while you work, without switching tabs or picking up your phone. It works with the Sugar Sense app and your own glucose source: FreeStyle Libre, Dexcom, Nightscout, Apple Health, Health Connect or manual readings.
WHAT YOU SEE ON THE TOOLBAR
• Your latest glucose value as a badge, colored by your own range: green in range, amber warning, red alert
• Hover for the trend arrow, the change since the previous reading and the time of the last update
• Optional big-number mode: the icon itself becomes a large, color-coded number with a trend arrow
• When data is older than 15 minutes the number turns grey and shows when it was read; after two hours it says No Data, so a stale value is never mistaken for a current one
WHAT YOU SEE IN THE POPUP
• Current value, trend arrow and delta (for example 104 ↗ +7), in mg/dL or mmol/L, exactly as in your app
• Glucose graph for the last 3, 6, 12 or 24 hours, with your low and high thresholds marked, a time axis and hover details for every reading
• Time in range, lowest and highest for the selected window
• One click to open the full Sugar Sense web dashboard
FOR FAMILIES AND CARE PARTNERS
If you follow someone through Sugar Sense Care Circle (a child, a partner, a parent), the extension shows their glucose instead of yours, colored by their own target range, with their name on the popup. Follow more than one person and switch between them with a tap. Invitations are sent from the Sugar Sense app.
YOUR WAY
• Light, dark or automatic appearance
• Keyboard shortcut Alt+Shift+G (Option+Shift+G on Mac) opens the popup from any page
• Interface in English, German, French, Spanish, Dutch and Georgian, switchable inside the popup
HOW IT WORKS
Sign in once with the same Google or Apple account you use in the Sugar Sense app, through the Sugar Sense web dashboard. The extension then reads the latest glucose from your own account every 30 seconds. Nothing is configured twice: your unit and your alert thresholds come from your Sugar Sense profile.
REQUIREMENTS
• A Sugar Sense account with a connected glucose source, set up in the Sugar Sense app for iPhone or Android
• Supported sources: FreeStyle Libre (via LibreLinkUp), Dexcom (via Dexcom Share), Nightscout, Apple Health, Health Connect and manual readings
IMPORTANT
• The extension is for viewing only. It never sends notifications or alerts: alerts stay on your phone, where they are reliable
• It gives no insulin dosing advice of any kind
• Sugar Sense is not a medical device and not a substitute for professional medical advice. Always confirm with your meter or sensor app before making treatment decisions
PRIVACY
Your session and your latest readings are stored only locally in your browser. The extension talks only to sugarsense.io and to Google sign-in services, contains no analytics or tracking code, and never shares your data with anyone. Privacy policy: https://sugarsense.io/privacy-policy
ALSO AVAILABLE
The same extension exists for Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Safari, plus a Mac menu bar app and a Windows system tray app: sugarsense.io/desktop. Sugar Sense for iPhone, Android, Apple Watch, Wear OS and Garmin: sugarsense.io
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does it work with Dexcom G7 and FreeStyle Libre 3? Yes, through the same Dexcom Share or LibreLinkUp connection your Sugar Sense app already uses. Nightscout sites work too.
Do I need Sugar Sense Premium? No. The extension is free and works with a free Sugar Sense account.
Why does the badge show "--"? No reading has arrived for more than two hours. Check the sensor app on your phone.
Can it alert me? No, by design. Alerts and the emergency call feature stay in the Sugar Sense phone app.
