About this extension
blas. Grammar Checker catches writing issues while you type in ordinary browser
text fields and most rich-text editors. Gmail compose boxes, Notion-style
editors, comments, web forms, and the popup paste-to-check flow are the
first-class targets.
It checks English plus six Celtic languages. The Celtic language set is Irish,
Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, Manx, Cornish, and Breton:
Passive grammar checking is local and deterministic. The text you type into web
pages is checked inside the extension, not uploaded to blas. or a third party
merely because you type. Optional English cloud Deep Review is separate.
What it catches
English:
Irish and Welsh have the deepest Celtic rule coverage, including source-backed
mutation, article, agreement, apostrophe, confusable, punctuation, and editor
checks.
Scottish Gaelic, Manx, Cornish, and Breton ship as conservative daily-writing
assistants. They focus on source-backed spelling/orthography, mutation or
article-trigger checks where implemented, punctuation, doubled words,
capitalisation, and safe review prompts.
Across all Celtic languages, suggestions are corrections or review prompts
backed by rules, lexica, source corpora, or reviewer workflows. The extension
does not generate Celtic-language rewrites.

What it catches
English:
- Common spelling mistakes and missing contraction apostrophes
- Subject-verb agreement, pronoun case, articles, verb forms, and common
preposition/collocation errors - Confusables such as its/it's, your/you're, their/there/they're, then/than,
affect/effect, loose/lose, and other high-frequency pairs - Capitalisation, doubled words, spacing, and punctuation issues such as comma
splices and missing commas after introductory transitions - Optional clarity/style hints when stricter review modes are enabled

How it works
- Underlines issues with a wavy red line in supported fields
- Hover or click for a short explanation and a suggested fix
- Accept, dismiss, ignore matching suggestions, or add spelling words to your
local dictionary - Open the review panel for longer writing, category tabs, batch accept, undo,
copy-fixed-text, and quick feedback - Use the popup paste checker when a page cannot safely support inline editing
- Google Docs is fallback-only today: use the paste checker instead of inline
Docs underlines - Optional account linking can sync ignores and saved words, save writing, and
submit explicit reports to blas. - Optional push-to-talk dictation is available for Irish and Welsh after you
enable microphone access in Settings - Linked Premium users can explicitly click English cloud Deep Review to send
only the selected English text and context they choose; its setting is enabled
by default, can be turned off in Settings, and rejects Celtic text
Privacy
- Passive grammar checking runs on-device
- English cloud Deep Review makes no request before an explicit click. It sends
only selected English text and context, and does not store raw review text or
use it for training - No sign-in is required
- Analytics is off by default and sends anonymous, de-identified usage data only
after you opt in from Settings - Usage analytics never includes the text you type
- False-positive reports preview the submitted fields before you send them
- Accepted-correction practice scheduling is disabled in this release
- When analytics is explicitly enabled, a de-identified sample of corrections
you accept (the flagged word or phrase, accepted fix, rule id, and site
domain, length-capped, never your full document) is sent to improve the
models; turn analytics off to stop it - Dictation sends the recorded Irish/Welsh audio clip to blasapp.com for
transcription only when you press the dictation shortcut
Boundaries
- This is a conservative writing assistant, not a replacement for human review
- It does not claim to catch every grammar issue
- It does not provide generated AI rewrites for Celtic languages
- It does not translate text
- It does not support inline Google Docs editing yet
- English cloud Deep Review is a linked Premium feature, separate from passive
checking. Its setting is enabled when no preference exists and respects an
explicit off choice; cloud results also require an operator-deployed provider - Deep Review accepts English only and rejects Celtic text
Attribution
- Irish morphology uses forms from Bunachar Naisiunta Moirfeolaiochta
(Foras na Gaeilge) under the Open Database Licence 1.0 - Welsh lexical data includes data extracted from English Wiktionary via Kaikki
(CC0) - Other Celtic language data is bundled locally from the source-backed Blas data
pipeline and release-asset gate - App code (C) blas. - all rights reserved
